Social media reacted to song lyrics about "going to prison" as Trump took the stage in Iowa

A sarcastic song with lyrics suggesting "prison" played over the loudspeakers as former president Donald Trump hit the stage Friday night at Iowa's most significant political gathering of the year while facing several federal criminal accusations.

At the Iowa GOP's Lincoln Dinner on Friday night, Trump ascended the stage while Brooks & Dunn sang "Only In America," which includes the line, "One could end up going to prison, one just might be president."

The Iowa GOP selected the song, played before each candidate's ten-minute speech.

According to a Twitter user, Team Trump was "furious" with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds over her music selection.

Twitter users immediately called attention to the lyrics.

Dave Aronberg, the state attorney for Palm Beach County, tweeted, "OMG. That phrase is delivered just as he enters the stage.

A GOP strategist, Mike Murphy, also contributed to the post, saying, "Ha! Trump is now aware that Kim Reynolds, the governor of Iowa, didn't acquire the position because she merely fell off a turnip truck. #SharpOperator BTW, she had just attended a significant Tim Scott event. and was given the proper respect.

The lively country song depicts the spirit of hope and patriotism in America.

The song's lyrics go, "One kid dreams of fame and fortune, One kid helps pay the rent, One could end up in jail, One just might be president." Only in America, Where we Dream as Big as We Want, Dreamin' in Red, White, and Blue.

Trump stormed onstage in front of a sold-out audience of over 1,000 people, seemingly oblivious to the lyrics' irony.

"If I weren't running, no one would be after me. Or, if I was significantly losing, no one would be pursuing me, Trump remarked in his address.

Special Counsel Jack Smith's inquiry into Trump's alleged inappropriate retention of secret data after his presidency led to the indictment of Trump in June.

Trump entered a not-guilty plea to 37 charges, including making false statements and willfully holding onto material related to national defense.
