2023 NFL MVP is Lamar Jackson, quarterback for the Ravens

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been honored as the NFL MVP for the 2023 season, marking the second time he has received this prestigious award in his burgeoning career.

Jackson emerged victorious over other notable contenders such as Josh Allen, the quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, Christian McCaffrey, the running back for the San Francisco 49ers, Dak Prescott, the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, and Brock Purdy, another quarterback for the 49ers.

Just the previous offseason, Jackson found himself negotiating a long-term contract extension with the Ravens. Despite the negotiations playing out publicly, Baltimore ownership eventually agreed to a lucrative five-year deal worth $260 million.

In the inaugural season of his extension, Jackson guided the Ravens to an impressive 13-3 record, securing the No. 1 seed in the AFC Playoffs.

Under the guidance of first-year offensive coordinator Todd Monken, Jackson showcased his prowess by amassing 3,678 passing yards, a personal best, along with 24 passing touchdowns and an improved completion rate of 67.2%.

However, it is Jackson's exceptional mobility and agility that truly set him apart as one of the premier dual-threat quarterbacks in the league.

On the ground, Jackson racked up 821 yards with five touchdowns, averaging an impressive 5.5 yards per attempt.

This isn't the first time Jackson has claimed the MVP title; he previously earned the accolade in only his second season after the Ravens selected him in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

During that remarkable season, Jackson recorded 36 touchdowns and 3,127 passing yards, while also showcasing his rushing ability with 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns—an achievement that may prove difficult to replicate.

Despite his individual success, Jackson's ultimate goal remains capturing a Super Bowl title to accompany his MVP awards. However, the Ravens fell short in their quest, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs and their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Nevertheless, Jackson's exceptional talent ensures that he will remain a force to be reckoned with in the playoffs, as he continues to confound NFL defenses with his unique skill set on game days.
