Harris attempts to negotiate Israel and Gaza with protesters who are a regular fixture at the DNC

At the Democratic National Convention, which has seen anti-Israel protests for four days, Vice President Kamala Harris finally spoke on the Israel-Palestinian conflict during her speech on the last night of the event.

Harris emphasized the administration's focus on securing a hostage and cease-fire agreement regarding the war in Gaza, stating that both she and President Biden are fully committed to the effort. "Now is the time to act," she said, while affirming her steadfast support for Israel’s right to defend itself after the October 7 attack by Hamas.

She also acknowledged the severe toll on Palestinian civilians during the conflict, describing the loss of innocent lives in Gaza as "devastating" and "heartbreaking."

Harris reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to ending the conflict while ensuring Israel's security, and also spoke about the need for the Palestinian people to achieve "dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination."

Earlier, in July, Harris met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reiterate U.S. support for Israel while expressing concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Cease-fire discussions were part of the agenda at that meeting.

On Monday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking from Israel, indicated that the Biden administration, in coordination with Qatar and Egypt, had put forward a proposal aimed at bridging the divide between the conflicting sides. This proposal, according to Blinken, has been accepted by Netanyahu, although Hamas has yet to agree.

Despite these efforts, anti-Israel protesters continued to express their dissatisfaction with Harris during the convention, with some labeling her as "Killer Kamala." Protesters shared their views with media outlets, voicing opposition to her stance on the issue.
