On October 9, drop boxes across Arizona will open, and campaign events featuring Trump, Harris, Vance, and Walz are scheduled in the crucial swing state.
The election season is in full swing, with early in-person voting beginning in Arizona, a key battleground state, on October 9. On this day, mail-in ballots will also be sent out to those who have made a request or are on the state’s active early voting list. Arizona voters receiving these ballots can still opt to vote early in person.
According to Arizona's election manual, "only the first ballot received and verified by the County Recorder shall be counted." The deadline to request a mail-in ballot is October 25. Early in-person voting will run through November 1 until 7 p.m., but voters facing emergencies can cast their ballots from November 1 through November 4, up until 5 p.m.
Counties are required to set up early voting locations to ensure all voters have reasonable access to at least one site. Maricopa County, home to over 60% of Arizona’s population, provides a list of voting centers and drop boxes, with a dozen vote centers opening on October 9. Others will open later, including on Election Day. All drop boxes, including two that operate 24 hours, open on October 9.
Top candidates are flocking to Arizona as the race tightens. Recent polling has shown former President Donald Trump holding a narrow lead over Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris. A recent survey, conducted from September 24 to October 1, showed Trump ahead by two points, while polling averages as of October 8 give Trump a slim advantage of 1.3 to 1.4 percent.
Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance, will hold a rally in Tucson on October 9, the same day that early voting begins. On that day, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’s running mate, will campaign in Chandler with Rep. Ruben Gallego, the Democratic Senate candidate. Gallego and his Republican opponent, Kari Lake, will debate later that day. Harris is scheduled for a rally in Chandler on October 10, while First Lady Jill Biden will represent Harris and Walz at events in Yuma on October 11. Trump is set to hold another event in Prescott Valley on October 13.
